HomeAid Georgia Care Days

HomeAid Georgia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to help people experiencing or at risk of homelessness build new lives through construction, community engagement, and education across the state of Georgia. One way we bring this mission to life is through HomeAid Care Days—hands-on volunteer workdays where minor repairs and upgrades are made at homeless shelters and service facilities at no cost to the organization. Volunteers help with painting, landscaping, cleaning, and small construction projects based on each organization’s needs. Since 2001, HomeAid has completed over 170 Care Days, saving service providers more than $2 million.

We're partnering with HomeAid to support Athens Area Habitat for Humanity in building 15 cottages for Lydia’s Place, which provides housing for youth aging out of foster care. Volunteers can join on six different dates: 5/27, 6/24, 7/22, 8/26, 9/23 and 10/28.

Diapers and Wipes Drive

Commencing in 2021, our inaugural Diapers and Wipes Drive was initiated to contribute to the Athens Area Diaper Bank. Since its inception, we have amassed a noteworthy donation tally, including over 1,000 diapers, 5,000 wipes, and monetary contributions exceeding $750.

In 2023, our efforts yielded a collection of 3,476 wipes and 1,492 diapers!

For participation in the upcoming drive, consult our weekly newsletter for timely information on its commencement.

CareKits

Inaugurated in the fall of 2023, our initiative involves gathering items for CareKits destined for those in need within our community. An Amazon wishlist, linked below, outlines the items required. Purchasing from this wishlist ensures direct shipment to the Athens Area HBA office.

Volunteers will be sought for the CareKits stuffing session, with updates available through the AAHBA newsletter.

Homes for Hunger 5K

Launched in 2019, our 5K event is geared towards collecting canned and dry goods for A.C.T.S Food Bank.

Refer to the AAHBA calendar for the latest updates on the annual Homes for Hunger 5K registration. If running isn't your forte and you wish to contribute canned goods, drop them off at the office during the second week of November.
