GEORGIA BOARD CHANGES CONTINUING EDUCATION LAW
Don't Miss the Deadline Effective May 18, 2011, the continuing education requirement for persons with residential basic and residential-light commercial contractor licenses has changed. The original law required each licensee to get continuing education credits before June 30, 2011, and more before June 30, 2012. Under the new law, each licensee will only be required to get credits before June 30, 2012 in order to renew their license.

DCA Issues a Waiver to Delay Blower Door Testing
The Home Builders Association of Georgia would like to express our appreciation to the Office of Construction Codes and
Industrialized
Buildings for working with us on a delay, up to six months, in the new blower door testing requirements of the new Energy Code supplements. The extension allows local builders, code enforcement officials, HVAC and Insulation installers and energy testing companies time to prepare for the new standards and testing. During that time only a visual inspection is required.
HBAG will remain in contact with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs on other updates or specific requirements, and will communicate with our many members across the state to help them better prepare.
Residential Basic and Residential-Light Commercial Contractors
Recently, the Residential Division of the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors adopted rules regarding the requirement of continuing education. Please review these rules and become familiar with the requirements for each license type. You will be required to complete these requirements in order to renew your license beginning with the 2012 renewal. Mandatory Blower Door Testing On New Construction Homes
Effective January 1, 2011
On November 3, the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Board voted to give final approval to adopt the 2009 IECC with 2011 Georgia Amendments (including mandatory blower door testing) as a minimum code and the 2008 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) with 2011 Georgia Amendments as a permissive code. This followed the July 29 recommendation of the State Codes Advisory Committee (SCAC) to approve the codes. The codes are effective January 1, 2011.
